Summer Learning Journey-PBS

The Summer Learning Journey for NEXT Foundation from Next Foundation on Vimeo.

Today we had very important visitors from the the Next foundation, Auckland University and Manaiakalani come to our school to launch the Summer Learning Journey program. Rachel who created the SLJ come speak to us about how the program helps us get better at reading over the holidays. The NEXT Foundation think the SLJ is such a good idea they have given money so that it can keep going and more kids across NZ can take part. After our visitors spoke to us we all watched the movie that was made about the Summer Learning Journey in our class. I want to say a huge thank you to the Next Foundation for providing a yummy lunch for the whole school.

google

On goggle. There is a really cool game called google Scratch. This was a very awesome game. This game challenged my head because every time I got out I was addicted to try again. As I was on one level and then continued to the next it got harder and harder.

Place Value

Today I have been learning how to use srceencastify. To do this i had to find a math DLO to talk about for the screencastify. The thing that i found hard about this was that I had to keep on recording over and over again. The thing that I find easy about today with the screencastify was reading out loud and getting it right.

Interschool Ripper Rugby

Today for inter-school Ripper rugby we played 4 games we vs Point England  we lost by 1-9,  than we challenge Glen Taylor which we lost , Tamaki Primary we lost  by 2-4 and Glen Brae we lost by 6-10. I really enjoyed vs other school we had couple of sup but we all had each turn. Today the weather was windy but we still played our game we score some try and also we have worked has team work well we were play our games.

Cross Country

In cross country the year 8 had to do 5 laps.I found it hard because it was pretty far. I stopped running but than I carry on ,when it got to the mountain my legs were weak. I found it really hard. In cross I cam 4th in cross country.

kiwi can

Today group A went to kiwi can . For our warm up we played a game called objects e.g if you put a hula hoop in the middle you have to come up with a actions. When we were getting started we got into group.In kiwi can we took turns by going in the middle with a action by what should we do with a hula hoop , Me and nazllea came up with a car.I had lots of fun.

Princess Bride

In class we watched a movie called Princess Bride. We did a lot of activities and my favourite one is character Introduction document. I also learnt about the characters and how to recognise who is the antagonist and the protagonist in other movies. We completed many activities about the Opening Sequence, Character introduction, Fantasy Conventions, Shot types and Narrative theory. 

Sacle dwaing

Last week we did Scale drawing, we did the enlargement and the grid. We had to make sure that we were copying the image onto the enlargement square. I chose Micky mouse because it look interesting and fun to draw.

Finding out about coalition ?

Today learning space 2 were focusing on Election result for 2017.Joshua,Mishaan,Viva, and I were finding out what is  coalition?. We found out that coalition is like joining another bigger party and how they could affect the elections . This DLO is about who's our local MPV is and how will the coalition New Zealand first affect the result

Democracy

For this election activity, we had to make a flow chart about the democracy of New Zealand. In New Zealand we have the Queen on the top of the flow chart as well as the governor general as her representative.  

Helen Clark

Helen Clark was one of the former Prime Ministers of New Zealand. She is now a valuable member of the United Nations. She has made New Zealand well recognized and have done great things in her time in parliament.

Parties

This week we have been working on election about who should be our prime minister. I worked with Mishaan, Mia Ofa and Zahra. I have added the leaders of the main party and what electorate they are in.

read an Ebook Day

It is currently e-book day (September 18th). LS2 has been reading E-books. Today we used the Tamaki College Overdrive to read our E-books. We read e-books today to celebrate modern storytelling. We had fun reading different varieties of books. I chose this book because I found it interesting and fun. If you want to read more about Read an E-book day go on this website. #BOOKLOVE

Kiwi Can taking risk

Today for kiwi Can session we played bip bop bounce for our warm up .when we were finished Mr malu and Miss latoua took us outside to play a game of hand soccer. as we got in to that we had to get into our group A and B , each group had to roll the ball to the goal to get a point as we were playing our groups were working has a team and taking risks.

Tamaki Collenge

The year 8 went to Tamaki College to experience to see what it's like when you are going to be in high school. I think I had a great time at tamaki college thank you to the year 9s for looking after us you have made our years 8s feel safe and where to go. My favourite subject for today at tamaki college was science because, i have learnt new skills.

Make up

Here is a digital learning object that I have made by using google drawing . This is what I have chosen to be when I grow up and older. I made this because we had take a quiz of what we want to be when we grow up.In this DLO  I have created something with a job that want to do for career when I go older i would like to be a make artis. 

Kate Sheppard - Sketchnote DLO

In reading this week, we had to define words that connect with the suffrage movement. We also had to answer what we know about the suffrage movement.  Zahra and I have worked together to complete this DLO. We talked about the questions and also added an image each.

Kate Sheppard

In reading we have been focusing on women's right to vote back in 1892.Zahra and I have made this DLO about Kate Sheppard and what she did to change the men's choice in letting women vote. We have added important information about what Kate Sheppard did. We have also added her personal qualities. 

Rewindable Learning

Today my group for dance had been practicing our moves to Staying Alive. Our dance teacher's name is Zoe. She was the one who taught us this amazing dance from the 80s. My group and I were watching it on the T.V. rewinding to go back and watching it over again so that we can all go at the same time along with the music.

Writing

Today we were learning when to use a and when to use an before a word. If a word begins with a vowel (a-e-i-o-u) or a silent h for example I want an pancake for morning tea or I want an orange to eat with. When we use a we use it for words beginning with all the other words except for the vowels. The DLO above shows you what we use 'an' or 'a' for.

Women Suffagette

Since women's voting rights were a big problem in the early 1840's, our reading topic this term is "votes for women". Mia, Nazella, Zahra, Mishaan, Jorja and I have been working collaboratively to make this 25 word summary about women's suffragette. 

Let me show you something about lunch a PBS

Let me tell you something about lunchtime at PBS. When lunch starts we mainly grab our lunch out of our bags ready to eat. When people start to eat I can hear people talking and their rubbish rusting as they are ripped open.When people finished eating lots of them ran to the park or the courts to play. When we stand near the playground we hear people having lots of fun screaming, you can always hear the excitement of happiness.

As people enjoy themselves playing handball, you can hear the sound when the ball bounces upon their hands on to the ground until you hear “BANG”. Some people are angry when they lose and others happy when they win. When you see the juniors running down the hills, I always think they must having a lots of fun. Others play netball or basketball to have fun. You often see the ball flying in the air like a bird as they to get points by shooting the ball in the hoop.

As the bell rings everyone runs back to class, to wait quietly for the teachers.

Today we had 4 minutes of writing, then I had to read my partner to make sure it made sense and it had no mistakes. I found this hard because I didn't know what to write so that it could make sense. I had made a mistake in my writing but then Mrs Anderson helped me. I think next time I would try my best to write more and remember it should make sense.

Why Is It So Important To Keep Oral Storytelling Alive?

Why is it important to keep the Maori story’s going because Myth and legends are a traditions way that have been past down from generation to generation .  

For this task we had to watch a video about Maori oral storytelling. We watched three videos talking about oral storytelling. We had to work collaboratively with our partners. We had to answer the question Why is it important to keep oral storytelling alive. The hard thing about this was that the videos were in Te Reo so we had to read the subtitles.

Day 1 - Activity 1 Winter hoilday programe

1. Moari has a greeting that is called Hongi. Hongi is when you press you nose together

2. Aj hackett invent the bungy jump.

3. Rugby is national sport in NZ because All blacks represent our country.

For this activity I had to find three inserting facts to post on my blog. I learnt the first and second. Now I know the new word Hongi.

term 2 Reflections

This term I have really enjoyed learning about my timetables in maths. I now know how to do my place value. I enjoy working on my maths because I like doing hard things and I can also learn from my mistakes. I also like doing dance with Mrs Anderson . Also I like going tech with the whole class. Tech is nice because I learn different things.

Dance

Silver Respect Care Award - Create a Collage Showcasing PBS

Today I decided to create a collage showcasing life at Panmure Bridge School.This is for my respect care award. I thought this task was one of my favorite because I added in pictures to show my examples. 

Legen of the seven sister

Fifita and I had completed our task for Matariki. Well Did you know that the seven stars are actually sisters. But not all seven are sisters. In this DLO we had included a reference. This task is part of our inquiry and we had lots of fun making this DLO. 

How do Native American people celebrate winter solstice?

Today we have been learning new things about Matariki. Fifita and I chose to start with this first because we wanted to know what other countries do to celebrate winter solstice. We chose to find out about the Native Americans because we wanted to know what they do. Native American people make prayer sticks four days before the winter solstice. Fifita and I worked really hard and next time we are going to work faster.  

Dance-Mrs A

Today Fifita and I had our last practice for dance. In our video Fifita and I did great but we needed to work on a few things. We needed to be more confident because we kept on laughing. We also needed to sharpen up our moves. Fifita and I still had fun. 

Sergeant-Major Uea - Care Award ( Javeylor)

 

I found out about that  in the world war one Sergeant-Major Uea of Niue with his son Makanetiaki and Uea, was a native pastor and teacher, was the oldest member of the Niue contingent that sailed for New Zealand in October 1915. He was a leading figure on the island in encouraging support for the war effort, contributing to the war fund as well as volunteering for service in the Niue contingent. Uea was therefore appointed chaplain to the group and promoted to sergeant and then sergeant major. 

Group Opinion

In inquiry,Magenta , Ma'ata  and I were finding solutions to our rubbish problem in our school.  We divided the paper into four parts, and added a square in the middle so we could put the opinion in our group to found the best into it.  we found a way that we could communicate. We circled the ideas that we liked and put them all together to form one opinion. I thought that we could have put more bins outside as well as encouraging each other to pick up rubbish even if it isn't ours.

Dance with Mrs A

Today for dance we filmed our dances so we can look over what we are doing wrong that we need to fix.I was working with Mia , Nazella and I . We made a lot of new moves today and learnt how to make shapes using different shapes. We were grouped up with magenta and ma'ata so we can film each others dance.

Saummary

One of our reading focuses was to summarize a book called Eco-rangers Save the Planet. As we red we wrote down some words that are important. So we started off with 20 words then cut it down to 6 most important words.  Now we made a summary with those 6 words. I think this summary was quite good and we used good choice of sentences to fit the words. 

Dance with Miss Brett

Today LS2  stundents dance with Miss brett. First we watched Tiava and Eric warm up . Before  After that Mia , Nazllea and I worked together to make up our own moves. Mia , Nazllea and I were really excited because we knew that it was going to be fun. After we drew our warm up exercises we had to show another groups. Mia , Nazllea and I needed to work on our confidence as well. We all had so much fun even Miss brett.      

Aretha Franklin (Care award)

This is a research about the song Respect by Aretha Franklin and it was also sung by some various amount of singers for example  Tucker sang in 2010. I have done this research as part of my CARE Awards based on Respect.

Samoan tatau

This week is samoan week i have been creating a DLO about samoan tatau. I had to find informations about the samoan tatau which mans cover low body to waist and knee and women's cover their legs upper thigh and behide knee.

This week in writing we have been learning to stretch sentence by using Who , What , When and Why.

Today for tech the year 8 have change to graphic with Mrs Fergasen. For graphic I had to create a DLO about what i like about myself so when she told me i went on to search what i like and add it to my DLO , than When I was  finished Mrs Fergasen give the years 8's students google sheets to put our link on to it so that she could edited .I cant wait until the year 8 move on to make clocks.

Dance

This week in dance I have been working with mishaan on our movements.Today Mishaan and i have been trying all of these moves. Free flow is when you move from bones , Bound flow is when you move from muscles ,twisted shapes is when you twist your hand or body , Straight shapes is when you stand straight but moving your body, curve shapes is when you curve your body , angular shapes is when you swap you  , level high and low is when your moving high and low. I like how all the kids and Mrs Anderson and Mrs Linda  did the move they made up . after that we made square triangle circle shape with our body  and that was cool . 

  

Care Award

I have finished one of my Confidence care awards. This DLO is about cyber safe . I have wrote why you should not share your phone number and email. If something bad happens you should tell your parents right away.  

dance lesson ( Mrs A )

Today LS2 had their first session of dance with Mrs Anderson. First we watched a couple of videos about warming up. Before you get ready to dance you need to get your blood muscles running. To get your blood muscles running you need to do warm ups and stretches. We all had to find a space to have a practice. After that Fifita and I worked together to make up our own warm up routine.Fifita and I were really excited because we knew that it was going to be fun. After we drew our warm up exercises we had to show another group. Fifita and I were groups with Zahra, Sa kae, and Jorja. They showed us their warm up routine first. It was really interesting but all they needed to work on was their Confidence. Now it was our turn we showed them our warm up routine. Fifita and I needed to work on our confidence as well. We all had so much fun even Mrs Anderson.

Something I  know about this is so similar than the Anzac movie and it is like the cold war. Something I know about this is that it's really similar to the movies about the war.	Something I know about this is like when it  happened in the Cold war with all the nuclear bombs being dropped . Something I know  about this is like the book about When the wind blows it like the cold war . Something I know about this is like book of the red poppy This book reminds me about when we went to the Museum with the classroom in 2014.	My (Javeylor) reaction to this story was sad that the characters died at the end while saying one of the light brigade lines from the poem. My (Joshua V) reaction to this story was to be careful with nuclear bombs because bad things will happen.

today i have been learning about how to solve 999 x 5 . I have been working on my maths to solve that problem to it .

Current Events

 In this task we had to write about a current event that was happening in the world. We focused on one event that had happen which was China banning Ivory sellers. My point of view for this was that it is quite good because they will now stop killing animals and there will be less poaching. But I also think this is bad because people will start losing their jobs which means that their will be less money for 

Personification

Viva and I created this DLO to show how our words can give things human qualities. This is called personification. In this task we worked together to give the days of the week personalities.

Oh Hsen, Mathias and myself were researching how bad pollution was in the 1800's. We then wrote our notes than after we had written our notes we took  photos.

PBS performance - Te Oro

Today the performance group went on a bus to go to the Te Oro for a performance. Mishaan and I were wearing one one of the costumes for our performance. I really like how I was wearing the milk cartons and mishaan was wearing the plastic jacket and bubble wrap. I felt very nervous but I just carried on till the end. Thanks to the teachers for helping us put our costumes on and get ready for the performance. I think the people who were performing did a really good job an made our school proud.

Jumbled Instructions

Today i have learnt how to put jumbled instructions  in Order by using  the right introduction in my learning i have learnt  how to put thing in order  and getting it right .

Kokako Lodge - Brochure

Today Mishaan and I have finished our brochure for Kokako Lodge. We have done the outside and inside of the Brochure. We have included pictures of us doing our activities. We have included all the some activity at camp. My favourite activity was high ropes. The best thing i like was Camp concert . My goal was to try and built my confident 

Making pies at tech

   At tech today we completed making our meat pies. It was a long process of steps but we finally made our pies. It had a crunch crust which was drizzled with egg, and the filling was delicious. Mishaan, Mia and I really liked our meat pies and hope to make more at home.

Can’t believe they made us do this!

I felt very nervous in the dark. My heart was racing, we set off behind each other in a line.We walked very slowly step by step, with other shoulder in front of us for us to see.

We were greeted by the glow worm community. As each  step we took we got further along the pathway as we all grabbed on each other and came closer. I could feel mud going throw my shoes. Each time the light went out the chatter of insects got louder and the screams of classmates came closer.

As we tiptoed across the small  bridge Mrs A and Mrs C was taking a photo of a huge spider. Mrs C shone the light at the spider and Mrs A screamed when the spider came back and stared at us. We were so excited to see the lights back at camp until a cricket started heading towards us on the deck.  

This is my camp recount story it is about the night walk at camp( To look at the glow warm) .I cant say it because you have to read my story until your finish, you should already have the idea thats happening  in my story.

This week I have finished my photo story of the days that I have been at camp. This blog post was hard to do because I had to look at all the photos and try my best to find myself.

Kokako Facts

Today I have worked with Mishaan and I to complete Info graphic task about a Kokako bird. We had to find what a Kokako bird eats. Where its habitat is. What the appearance of Kokako bird is. What harms the Kokako bird and 3 Fabulous facts. We also had to attribute images. The hardest thing for me to do is to find out 3 interesting facts about the Kokako birds. 

Kokako Lodge

Last week LS2 went to cam, we had an amazing time with the fun activities and the delicious food. This collage showcases some of the amazing things we did at camp. I added pictures of archery, camp high ropes, scavenger hunt, our falls trip, high ropes, and the pools. My favourite activity was high ropes because it challenged me.
